Trips 1983–1992

Even in the last decade of his life, Willy Brandt is drawn to far-away places. From 1983 until 1992, he undertakes ca. 180 trips beyond the borders of the Federal Republic of Germany, with which he visits a total of 52 countries. His most distant destinations are Australia and New Zealand where the President of the Socialist International travels for the first time in 1991.

By far, Willy Brandt visits France most frequently during these years. His vacation house in Gagnières in the Cevenne Mountains is for all practical purposes his second residence since the mid-1980s. Not listed here are Brandt’s trips within the Federal Republic as chairman or as honorary chairman of the SPD.
