A week after his election as federal chancellor, Willy Brandt stakes out the course of the new government, which is formed for the first time by the SPD and FDP. He announces reforms in domestic policy and a new Ostpolitik. Brandt’s central messages are “We want to dare more democracy” and “We want to be and become a people of good neighbours – domestically and abroad.”
