Only a few hours after the assassination of the 35th President of the United States, Willy Brandt gives a speech at a mourning rally organised spontaneously by Berlin students and the Ring politischer Jugend. In front of tens of thousands of people gathering in the night at Schöneberg Town Hall the Governing Mayor remembers especially John F. Kennedy’s firm commitment in protecting the freedom of West Berlin. Brandt declares Kennedy as the city’s best friend.
