Speech to the Steuben-Schurz Society in Berlin, 17 January 1958
A few days before his first official visit to the USA as Governing Mayor, Willy Brandt speaks on the subject “Bemerkungen zur internationalen Politik” (“Observations on international Politics”). For one thing, in the speech he underscores the close allied partnership of the Federal Republic of Germany and of West Berlin with America and the West. For another, however, Brandt makes it clear that the ever-changing situation in the world requires new initiatives, especially toward the East.
