Statement on the outcome of the Bundestag elections, 19 November 1972
In the early Bundestag elections on 19 November 1972, the SPD achieves with 45.8 percent the best results in its history. Willy Brandt remains federal chancellor and can continue the social-liberal coalition with the FDP. In Schaumburg Palace, the seat of the chancellor’s office, he appears before the press together with Foreign Minister and Vice-Chancellor Walter Scheel. Amid the cheering of his supporters, Brandt makes a statement on the outcome of the elections.
